ON THIS DAY

Queen’s Park 3 Brechin City 1

Saturday, September 18, 1976

On this day 50 years ago, Queen’s Park beat Brechin City 3-1 in a Second Division game at Hampden Park. Left back Gerry Colgan was the match winner for the Spiders with a hat-trick of goals from penalty kicks.

Gerry Colgan was not the last player to score a hat-trick of penalties for Queen's Park. In August 2003, Steven Reilly repeated the feat when he scored three from the spot against Elgin City.
